Book Companion Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 8, 2026
HG Book Companion is a reading app from HG Publishing. It shows pictures, maps, characters and things to find beside the story as you read, and it can read some books aloud. This page explains, in plain words, what the app does with your information. The short version: the app itself collects nothing.
What the app keeps, and where
To remember your place and what you've found, the app saves a small file on your own device. It holds:
- where you are in each book, and the furthest point you've reached;
- treasure found, points (XP) and levels;
- quiz answers and which words you've met;
- your settings: text size, page turning or scrolling, which layers are on, and the panel width.
This file never leaves your device. We can't see it. Deleting the app deletes it.
What the app never collects
- No accounts, names, email addresses or passwords.
- No location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone.
- No advertising, and no advertising or tracking identifiers.
- No third-party analytics or tracking code of any kind.
- The app does not send anything over the internet on its own. Books, pictures and narration come inside the app.
Sending us feedback
The envelope button opens your own Mail app with a new email to us. To help us find the spot you're writing about, the email is already filled in with the book, the chapter and your place in it, the app's version number, and your device type and system version. You can read it, change it or delete any of it before sending. Nothing is sent unless you press Send. We use feedback emails only to fix and improve the app and the books.
Beta testing (TestFlight)
While the app is in testing, it is shared through Apple's TestFlight. If you are a tester, Apple provides us with crash reports, basic usage information (for example, how many sessions), and any feedback or screenshots you choose to send through TestFlight, linked to the email address you were invited with. We use this only to fix and improve the app. Apple's handling of this data is described in TestFlight's terms and Apple's privacy policy.
Children
Many of our books are for children, and the app is built for families. Because the app itself collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children either.
Apple
The app is distributed through Apple. If you have chosen in your device settings to share crash reports and app analytics with developers, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports that help us fix bugs. These do not identify you. Apple's own handling of your data is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
If this ever changes
If a future version of the app sends anything off your device, for example anonymous reading totals to help us improve the books, we will update this page before that version is released. We will say exactly what is sent, and give parents a switch to turn it off. We will never sell information or use it for advertising.
